In order to mine, you will need a Pick Axe. You can purchase one of these from the Blacksmith Shop in any town. All you have to do is keep the Pick Axe in your pack. Around the world you will find ore deposits. Click on these deposits, wait a second, and you'll be given the ores.
In order to turn your ores into ingots, visit a Blacksmith Shop of any town, find a Forge, right-click it, and select Use. A window asking which ore you want to smelt and how many of that ore will come up. Just make your selection and wait for the ores to finish smelting.
